An 18-year-old Sacramento woman died and three other teens were injured in a single-car rollover crash late Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 11:10 p.m., a red 1998 Acura sedan being driven by Vladimir Sushinskiy, 18, of Sacramento, was traveling along eastbound Interstate 80, merging to southbound Interstate 5 at a "high rate of speed," said Lizz Dutton, a CHP spokeswoman.
Sushinskiy lost control of the car, sending it careening off of the north roadway edge of the transition road, Dutton said. The car continued up and over a guardrail and flipped over, coming to rest on its roof.
A female passenger in the back seat was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity was not available Monday afternoon.
Sushinskiy was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, and two other passengers, David Tkachuk, 18, and a 17-year-old female, both from Sacramento, were taken to UC Davis Medical Center, all with moderate injuries.
Dutton said charges against Sushinskiy are pending the outcome of an investigation.
