Winter returns to Sacramento with the first rain in 24 days.
Today's rainfall marks the first measurable precipitation since Jan. 25 when a measly .01 was registered in the Sacramento rain gauge.
The rain is expected to be of the hit-and-run variety, delivering from a quarter to a half-inch of precipitation before skedaddling. Sunny weather is forecast to return on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting periods of heavy snow today in the afternoon over Highway 50 and Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada.
