Re "Montgomery gets off lightly for his shove" (Sports, Feb. 20): Sports writer Victor Contreras writes that UC Berkeley basketball coach Mike Montgomery's shove of one of his athletes was worthy of a one-game suspension.
The call for a suspension is the type of thing ruining sports in our country. Professional athletes are getting arrested routinely, lots of times for serious crimes involving weapons and assaults. They make millions of dollars.
I am an avid sports fan, but I am not an avid fan of the players. If Demarcus Cousins or Michael Vick would have been shoved a time or two in college, they might understand what the word consequences means.
Good for you, Coach Montgomery. You have my support.
