The National Weather Service confirmed today that the twister that touched down in Tehama County on Tuesday was a tornado.
The weather service classified it as an EF0 tornado. Tornadoes are classified into three main groups based on their estimated wind speeds. EF0 and EF1 tornadoes have wind speeds of 65 to 110 mph.
The tornado that touched down at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, three miles northwest of Los Molinos, lasted only a few minutes.
During most of that time, the twister tracked through empty fields, according to the weather service. However, significant damage was sustained when the tornado came upon a barn.
Metal and wood roofing material was thrown 200 feet from the farm building. Based on the damage, the weather service estimates that winds speeds reached 74 mph.
