Local college basketball: UCD can't hold on in Long Beach

LONG BEACH – UC Davis had its two-game winning streak stopped Wednesday night, blowing an 11-point second-half lead in a 71-65 loss to Long Beach State.

The Aggies led 35-24 on J.T. Adenrele's layup just after halftime. But the 49ers stormed back, taking the lead for good, 59-57, on Tony Freeland's layup with 3:45 left.

Long Beach State (17-9, 13-2) closed in on the Big West Conference regular-season title. The 49ers lead second-place Pacific by 3 1/2 games. Long Beach has three conference games left; Pacific has four.

Keala King scored 22 points, and Freeland had 18 for the 49ers.

Corey Hawkins made 4 of 8 three-point attempts and scored 21 points for the Aggies (11-14, 7-7). Adenrele had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
