A Sacramento group that produces the nation's largest and oldest senior softball publication has purchased Reno-based Softball West magazine, which has extensively covered softball throughout the West for almost three decades.
The new ownership group is Softball West LLC, a joint venture between Senior Softball-USA of Sacramento and the Independent Softball Association, a Florida-based governing body for softball played throughout North America.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
SSUSA, publisher of Senior Softball News, will be publishing the magazine.
"We are dedicated to the highest principles of journalism, which include fairness, accuracy and access for all softball groups and associations of all ages," said Terry Hennessy, CEO of SSUSA and Softball West's publisher.
SSUSA announced that John McCasey, longtime executive director of the Sacramento Sports Commission, has been appointed Softball West editor.
Jack Sirard, a former business/personal finance columnist for The Sacramento Bee, has been named managing editor. Hennessy also is a former Bee employee, having worked in multiple editorial positions.
Hennessy said "the mission of Softball West is to be the information resource for all teams and players - and that only works if all tournaments are both listed on the website and promoted in the magazine."
Softball West has a circulation of 60,000 in nine western states, including California.
