Re "Tax havens let billions vanish" (Forum, Feb. 17) That $7.15 billion in missing tax revenue is quite a chunk of change, but it doesn't matter. This story will be forgotten by next week. It will be much easier for politicians, and the true believers to rail against Prop 13, the rich, the severe under-funding of schools, colleges, and other services.
Then we'll pass ballot measures for income tax increases, sales tax increases, and bond measures, instead of saying no to any tax increases until the politicians vote to change the laws and the $7.15 billion is collected from the corporations and the super rich who right now legally avoid paying their fair share. Legally avoid paying $7.15 billion worth of taxes.
Do you hear the sound of laughter?
