Re "End the insanity of ham-handed 'sequester' cuts" (Editorials, Feb. 22): The Bee editorial board bemoans how our elected leaders seem unable to avoid calamitous, across-the-board sequester spending cuts, yet is silent on the Democratic-controlled Senate's fiscal irresponsibility in failing to pass a budget for the past four years.
Nor does the editorial address the obvious and serious current congressional practice of providing for automatic, inflation-adjusted annual additions to the previous year's federal expenditures. No business could operate that way and no government should either. Putting a stop to that practice is not ham-handed; it is not even a budget cut.
