Reserve offensive lineman Al Netter was arrested in San Jose and charged with driving under the influence, the fourth member of the 49ers to be charged with DUI in the last 2 1/2 years.
Netter lives in Rohnert Park, and news of his arrest first was reported by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. The 49ers, through a spokesman, issued this statement: "The 49ers are aware of the recent matter involving Al Netter. We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve comment at this time as this is an ongoing legal matter. The organization will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely."
Netter went undrafted out of Northwestern last year and spent the season on the 49ers practice. He was one of several practice-squad players who turned down offers to join the 53-man rosters of other teams to remain with San Francisco. Netter re-signed with the 49ers earlier this year.
Defensive end Ray McDonald was cited for DUI in 2010. Two more defenders, defensive end Demarcus Dobbs and outside linebacker Aldon Smith, were arrested for DUI last year.
