Re "Sen Rubio, in rare move, resigns to take executive post with Chevron" (Capitol & California, Feb. 23): State Sen. Michael Rubio's resignation to take a post with Chevron is a farce. It is the epitome of hypocrisy from politicians that have no conscience and that act according to their selfish needs.
Not too long ago Rubio fought and spoke on behalf of the impoverished migrant community of Kettelman City, a community with a high rate of congenital birth defects attributed to possible pollutants emanating from companies like Chevron, which in fact has a facility next to the city.
Rubio's 180-degree shift leaves us to wonder what kind of person he really is. It provides good reason for California to move towards a part-time legislature, one which needs stricter laws to prevent individuals like Rubio from utilizing the system to their advantage.
