Re "Supervisors hear plea for affordable housing" (Our Region, Feb. 27): Please allow me to provide the correct context for the quote of my remarks on market forces and affordable housing. My comments at the conclusion of the workshop included statements that housing elements do not produce affordable housing, that the county's Affordable Housing Ordinance does not produce affordable housing, and that the county needs to continue to work with the county working group (which includes county staff, housing advocates and the Building Industry Association) to craft an ordinance or program which actually results in the production of affordable housing.
I then went on to state that we have seen in the last several years is that market forces overwhelm anything local government can do. I did not argue that now is the time to let the market generate affordable housing.
