Re "Weigh love of guns with cost" (Letters, Feb. 26): Sadly, the writer misses the point. But, it's understandable, since the "progressive" response to a perceived problem is to attack the tool, not confront the behavior of the human behind it.
Folks drinking too much soda? Ban the soda. Eating too many burgers? Go after the burger restaurant. Maniac shoots up a theater or school? Ignore the maniac, ignore the long-present danger signals, ignore the behavioral and treatment history; go after the weapon. T

Millions of Americans own millions of guns, and do so responsibly Why should they be penalized for the aberrant behavior of a few? Let's fully prosecute the criminal, get the records of the dangerously mentally ill into the system and make it work.
