Re "Closed schools must be used" (Letters, Feb. 25): I can't imagine anyone wanting a vacant school in their neighborhood which may attract vandals, squatters, drug dealers, etc.
Though I haven't seen it, a friend tells me she lives in an apartment/condo building which started life as a school near downtown Fredricksburg, Virginia. She is very happy with her unit.
I realize this isn't an option for all vacant school buildings, but I drove past Fremont School in Sacramento recently and it looks like a possible candidate for re-purposing.
