A pedestrian who died Feb. 22 after he was struck by a vehicle in South Lake Tahoe has been identified by police as John Carleton, 51, a local resident.
Officers responded about 6:45 p.m. to 2681 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Police said Carleton was crossing the street when he was struck by a sport-utility vehicle. He was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a Police Department news release.
The driver of the SUV, Gregory Stearns, 49, also of South Lake Tahoe, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol with a suspended license.
Police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation pending autopsy results.
