Re "Re "Last bell for seven schools" (Page A1, Feb. 23): My daughter goes to Clayton B. Wire elementary and I am sad and angry that the district wants to close her school. Clayton B. Wire has more than 500 students counting the preschool. We have no split classes and the school provides many services to our community. The district's report says that the school has 454 students and capacity for 1,022.
I found out that there are 19 other schools in the district that have lower enrollment than C.B.Wire that are not going to be closed!
They said we have to close because we have a couple of extra portables that are not being used and yet they are planning on putting new portables at some of the other schools. This makes no sense and is not fair. If we have so many students compared to other schools, what's the real reason for closing our school?
