Re "Another reason to restructure rail foundation" (Editorials, March 4): The City of Sacramento is in a unique position to take advantage of bringing a West Coast Smithsonian museum and we shouldn't let this opportunity pass.
Imagine what a West Coast Smithsonian -- placed in the downtown rail yards, just steps from the proposed arena -- would do for the Sacramento community. This addition to downtown Sacramento would bring in visitors from all over the world in a constant stream of tourist dollars, encouraging overnight stays with a more dependable source of revenue than even a sports arena would provide.
Of course, this would take planning, courage, and commitments from many forms of government, business and the public for many years to come, but with the right leadership, the results would benefit the greater Sacramento community for decades.
