Re "Mayor's team wants Downtown Plaza arena" (Page A1, March 1): In Mayor Kevin Johnson's State of the City address, we saw an impassioned and tenacious mayor dedicated to keeping the Kings in Sacramento.
I can't help but wonder what he might have accomplished by devoting the same energy, passion and tenacity to the other critical needs of our city. In terms of education, does the mayor really think Vision to Learn will have a major impact on literacy in Sacramento schools? And what about the lack of focus on addressing Sacramento's societal and safety needs (e.g., scarcity of mental health clinics and beds).
Perhaps, using the same passion, tenacity and drive he demonstrated to keep the Kings, Mayor Johnson might try working with others (school boards, teachers, parents and community leaders) to identify approaches and drive improvements as well as find alternative funding/investor solutions.
