Re "Gun: a tale of two states" (Page A1, March 3): State Sen. Leland Yee said, "It's a fact that gun laws work and weak laws result in loss of innocent lives," but the facts don't support him.
It's a fact that firearm-related deaths decreased after the 1994-2004 federal ban on AR platform rifles expired, showing that the ban had no effect on crime.
Missing from the article is the fact that Nevada, which does not demonize firearms, does not have rampant murder rates compared to California.
What we do have is Sen Yee who has chosen to misrepresent the mechanism required in California to slow semi-auto reloading, the bullet button, by saying that it actually speeds reloading and needs to be banned.
