Re "Strict abortion law passes in Arkansas" (Page A1, March 7): I was impressed by the Arkansas legislator who compared abortion to the Holocaust. Imagine my surprise to discover that the law provides no criminal or civil penalties for women who have abortions. The doctors who provide abortions only face the loss of their medical licenses in Arkansas.
It seems that these legislators lack the courage of their convictions. If abortion is murder, shouldn't the law carry severe criminal sanctions? I don't think you could have stopped the Holocaust by threatening Dr. Josef Mengele with the loss of his license to practice in Poland.
