Regional Digest: Sac State baseball team wins on walk-off single

David Del Grande singled for Sacramento State's second walk-off win of the season as the Hornets defeated Cal State Northridge 4-3 in a nonconference baseball game Friday at John Smith Field, Sac State reported.

The Hornets (8-5) won for the sixth time in seven games, while the Matadors fell to 5-9.

Del Grande, Rhys Hoskins (Jesuit High School), Nathan Lukes (Center) and Dane Fujinaka each had two hits for the Hornets. Reliever Brandon Creel (Rosemont) improved to 2-0 after tossing three scoreless innings of one-hit ball with two strikeouts.

• Jeff McKenzie of Cal State Bakersfield (9-4) shut out UC Davis (6-8) on eight hits in an 11-0 nonconference victory at Dobbins Stadium, according to UCD.

Hornets win in softball

• Emily McCormick hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning, lifting Sac State (9-5) to a 4-1 victory over Rutgers (6-5) in the first round of the Mustang Softball Classic in San Luis Obispo, Sac State reported on its athletics website. It was the fourth straight win and sixth in eight games for the Hornets, who were scheduled to play Nevada in the second round Friday night.

• UC Davis' games against New Mexico State and host Arizona State in the Diamond Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., were postponed by rain.

Cats tickets to go on sale

The River Cats will begin selling single-game tickets for the 2013 season from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Raley Field in West Sacramento.

Festivities include a live band, free food, free tours of the stadium and balloon artists for children.

• Tyler Raber of UC Davis shot a 1-under-par 71 to tie for third place after the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship in Bandon, Ore., UCD reported. The Aggies are sixth, six shots behind first-place Oregon, with 36 holes remaining.

• The Sac State women's tennis team (1-7) took No. 49 Saint Mary's (6-6) to three sets in four of six singles matches but lost 7-0 in Moraga, Sac State reported on its athletics website. In doubles, the Hornets' Katharina Knoebl and Jennifer Nguyen upset No. 37 Catherine Isip and Liz Searl 8-6.

• Leah Janke scored in the final minute to give host Cal State Northridge (13-5), ranked 15th, an 11-10 victory over No. 13 UC Davis (10-8) in a Big West Conference women's water polo opener, UCD reported on its athletics website.
