Will Soto went 4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Sacramento State to a 9-6 nonleague baseball win over visiting Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Sac State reported.
Andrew Ayers went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Hornets (9-6).
After Northridge (6-10) scored three runs in the top of the first inning, Sac State responded with four in the bottom of the first. Ayers hit a three-run homer, and Justin Higley added a solo shot.
Kevin Barker walked with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, lifting host UC Davis (7-9) to a 3-2 victory over Cal State Bakersfield (10-5), UCD reported. Evan Wolf allowed two runs in 71/3 innings for the Aggies.
Hornets edged in softball
Cal Poly defeated Sac State 2-1 at the Mustang Softball Classic in San Luis Obispo to end the Hornets' seven-game winning streak, Sac State reported. The Hornets concluded the tournament with a 4-1 record. They are 12-6 overall, their best record after 18 games in 10 years. Cal Poly is 9-16-1.
Justine Vela threw a one-hitter and struck out 14 as UCD beat Pittsburgh 2-0 in the Diamond Devil Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., according to UCD's athletics website. Later, Amy Nunez drove in all of the Aggies' runs in a 12-3 loss to No. 3 Arizona State, the tournament host. UCD (11-13) went 2-2 in the tournament.
UCD 14th in men's golf
The UC Davis men's golf team tied for 14th in the Bandon Dunes (Ore.) Championship, UCD reported. Matt Seramin tied for 31st place to lead the Aggies. Troix Tonkham of Fresno State earned medalist honors, and Colorado won the team title.
