Ryan Williams, Owen Taylor and Aaron Beverly each tallied a 36-hole total of 146 to lead the Hornets during the first day of the Sacramento State Invitational on Monday at Valley Hi Country Club, Sac State reported.
Hosting its first men's golf tournament in more than a decade, Sac State is in seventh place entering today's final round.
With rounds of 67 and 70 from individual leader Glen Scher, UC Santa Barbara opened a two-stroke lead over Chico State and Cal State Fullerton. Sac State trails by 12 strokes.
The Gauchos posted the low round of the day (282) before shooting 290 in the afternoon.
Williams, Taylor and Beverly are tied for 21st place.
The final round will begin at 8 a.m. with teams going off the first and 10th tees. Sac State will be paired with Loyola Marymount and Houston Baptist.
UCD's Hawkins honored
Sophomore guard Corey Hawkins, UC Davis' first Big West scoring champion at 20.9 points per game, was named first-team all-conference and the Newcomer of the Year, UCD reported. Guard Ryan Sypkens (Franklin High School) and forward J.T. Adenrele (Oakmont) earned honorable mention. Aggies forward Sydnee Fipps (16.3 ppg) was named to the women's first team, and guard Cortney French received honorable mention.
Sac State forward Kylie Kuhns (13.1 ppg, 10.9 rebounds per game) was named to the All-Big Sky Conference women's first team, Sac State reported. Guards Fantasia Hilliard (Sacramento High) and Alle Moreno earned honorable mention. Hornets forward John Dickson and sophomore point guard Dylan Garrity received men's honorable mention.
