The Sacramento Police Canine Association is asking for donations of items to be raffled to raise money for the care of current and retired police K-9s.
The items will be raffled off at the association's annual comedy night fundraiser Monday.
Tickets to that event are sold out, but the association is asking for new items such as gift certificates, complementary passes and merchandise for the raffle.
The association is a nonprofit group that pays expenses not covered by the Sacramento Police Department, such as community outreach, some training equipment and veterinary care and burial expenses for retired police dogs.
Sgt. Steve Oliveira, head of the K-9 unit, said three K-9s – Crash, Hutch and Sonic – are expected to retire this year and will need the association's support.
K-9 Bodie, who was shot by a suspect last year and still is receiving treatment for his injuries, also might be a beneficiary.
