California Family Fitness announced Thursday that it is building a gym on the 1000 block of K Street downtown, next to the entertainment complex that includes the Dive Bar, Pizza Rock and District 30. The company said it plans to open the 32,000-square-foot fitness club, which will replace its existing gym at 428 J St., by late summer.
Besides weights, group fitness classes, cardio machines and other gym staples, the club will have a rooftop level with an outdoor basketball court and a lounge with fire pits. The company estimates the facility will draw 30,000 patrons to K Street each month.
"CFF's downtown club will bring a new kind of entertainment to K Street," Cal Fit President Randy Karr said in a news release. He added that the gym is giving the company "the opportunity to be an integral part of the downtown community and contribute to the epicenter of the city's entertainment district."
