Re "New dawn for the Delta" (Page A1, March 15): The headline for that article should read: "The end of the Delta." The proposed tunnels would be capable of draining the Sacramento River. How do you save the Delta by destroying it? The Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District does not care about the consequences of this project. Just look what it did to the Owens Valley in the early 1900's. Los Angeles drained it and turned it into a desert. If our politicians and environmentalists cared about restoring the Delta, they would try to turn it back to the condition it was before the levees were built. In other words, shut off the pumps and remove the levees. The Delta was a vast wetlands teeming with life. There was no problem with salt water intrusion, as no water was diverted from it. The MWD use money from the enormous project and build desalinization plants.
