Jesse Elvrom set the Sacramento State record in the men's javelin with a throw of 172 feet, 11 inches Saturday in the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational at Hornet Stadium, according to Sac State's athletics website.
Elvrom finished second behind former Hornet Chris Kirkwood, who had a toss of 223-4 while competing unattached.
In the discus, Sac State's James Kinloch (172-11) and Zach Coniglio (167-0) finished first and second, respectively. Freshman Casey Wheeler won the men's 400-meter hurdles in 53.40 seconds.
UC Davis' Ashley Marshall broke teammate Melanise Chapman's school record in the 200, finishing second in 24.02 seconds, UCD reported. The Aggies' Cody Nguyen won the 800 in 1:55.21.
Hornets split in softball
Caitlin Brooks threw a two-hit shutout, and Kortney Solis and Alyssa Vanderdrink homered to lead Sac State to a 3-0 victory over Fresno State in the Capital Classic Softball Tournament at Shea Stadium. The Hornets earlier lost to Saint Mary's 9-3. Sac State (13-8) is 1-2 in the three-day tournament. The Hornets conclude Capital Classic play today at 11 a.m. against Kansas. Fresno State and Kansas are 2-1, Saint Mary's is 1-1, and Texas State is 1-2.
Leah Munden threw a four-hit shutout as visiting UC Davis beat Cal State Bakersfield 2-0 to complete a doubleheader sweep, UCD reported. The Aggies (13-13) won the opener 3-2 against the Roadrunners (2-15).
Robby Nesovic had an RBI single in the eighth inning, lifting the host UC Santa Barbara baseball team (11-7) to a 5-4 victory over Sac State (10-8), according to Sac State's athletics website.
The Sac State women's varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and second novice eight won at the Sacramento State Rowing Invitational at Lake Natoma.
The Sac State sand volleyball team won its first-ever match, defeating Cal 3-2 at the Sacramento Softball Complex, Sac State reported.
