Re "US counters N. Korean threats" (Page A1, March 16): The only real threat we face is out-of-control military spending. Another $1 billion to deploy a weapon that may not work?
Does anyone really think the North Korean military would attack us? It is the only group in North Korea that gets three square meals a day.
I sat in a Strategic Air Command post in the 1970s ready to destroy the world, but I had no hatred in my heart for the guys sitting in command posts in the Soviet Union, and I'm sure the young soldiers over there felt the same way. Why are we still building Abram tanks when we have more than 2,000 brand new ones sitting in the desert? Do we need the weapon or does someone need a dividend check? This insanity will bankrupt us.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
