A man died after a fight in midtown Sacramento early Sunday, Sacramento police said. The Coroner's Office had not identified the victim as of late Sunday.
Police responded to 18th and P streets about 12:45 a.m., after receiving reports that a person was injured and bleeding. Officers found a man in his 20s on the ground, with witnesses administering CPR.
The injured man was inebriated and had gotten into a fight with three other men, Officer Michele Gigante said. During the incident, he sustained traumatic injuries to his head and a bystander called police, she said.
It's unknown what caused the fight, Gigante said.
The man was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Detectives are treating the investigation as a homicide and are reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses to identify the people involved in the fight, Gigante said.
"This was an argument that turned physical," Gigante said. "There were three other people involved, and we would like for them to come forward."
No weapons were reportedly used in the fight, she added.
Detectives believe that several people witnessed the fight, and ask anyone with information to notify the police at (916) 264-5471 or at Crime Alert, (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
