Having been nominated for 15 Academy Awards as an actor, director and producer, Warren Beatty isn't used to playing the supporting role to some Joe from the coal-mining town of Monongahela, Pa.

But Joe Montana isn't any ordinary Joe.

Beatty, who played the role of a Los Angeles Rams quarterback who wins the Super Bowl in the movie "Heaven Can Wait," will get a few shrieks from fans in Sacramento at today's red-carpet arrival ceremony for the seventh annual California Hall of Fame inductions at the California Museum, 1020 O Street.

But those cheers will seem tame compared to what Montana can expect to hear.

Along with Montana and Beatty, Gregory Bateson (anthropologist), Charles and Ray Eames (designers), Dolores Huerta (labor leader), Ishi (Native American) and the Warner brothers (films)will be enshrined into the state's Hall of Fame.

Montana can expect a throng of 49ers faithful cheering loudly as he enters tonight's event.

And well he should.

Montana is the most beloved player – past or present – to play for Northern California's most beloved pro team, the 49ers. He's already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and the 49ers' Hall of Fame.

And 18 years after he retired after winning four Super Bowls and two MVP awards, Joe Cool still is receiving accolades as one of the greatest quarterbacks in history.

What to do

California Hall of Fame, red carpet, California Museum, 1020 O St., 6-7 p.m.: Fans can cheer the arrival of the 2013 inductees.
