Re "Liberals were right about war" (Letters, March 20): In the spirit of charity, I wouldn't call Brian K. Crites's claim naive, just misinformed. It's remarkable how the passage of time leads so many to attempt re-writing history.
Apparently, so many have already forgotten that, at the time, such liberal luminaries like Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, Joe Biden and John Kerry, agreeing with then-available intelligence, vocally supported the invasion. The fact that weapons of mass destruction were not officially found isn't surprising. Remember the hapless United Nations weapons inspectors delayed at Iraqi installation front gates while convoys of flatbed trucks left from the rear? Remember the satellite photos of said "suspect" truck convoys?
And while the war was sold with the idea of recouping the cost by extracting oil from a liberated Iraq, that oil never materialized, at least not for that purpose.
Naive? Perhaps. Forgetful? Definitely!
