Re "Finally, charges for malfeasance within CalPERS" (Editorials, March 20): The indictments at CalPERS were fully expected and resulted from an investigation ordered by CalPERS itself. I testified on similar issues before the Senate around the turn of the century. Arrogance and a sense of entitlement were widespread.
Three cheers for CalPERS board President Rob Feckner, chief executive Anne Stausboll and others at CalPERS for bringing an era of high ethical standards.
The Bee loves to spill ink on scandals but has NEVER endorsed CalPERS candidates (except for those who serve ex officio). Had The Bee taken that responsibility seriously when asked to do so 30 years ago, there may have been no scandals at CalPERS. Two seats are up for election this year. Will The Bee continue to shirk its civic duty once again?
