Bee Critic Picks: Things to do this weekend

Published: Friday, Mar. 22, 2013 - 12:00 am | Page 5TICKET

TODAY

Live music

Guitar master at work

What: If Leo Kottke's appearances included only his six- and 12-string guitar work, that would be amazing enough. But audiences also get his populist-laced monologues that delight, charm and tickle the funny bone.

When: 8 p.m., today

Where: Crest Theatre, 1013 K St., Sacramento

Cost: $25-$45

Information: leokottke.com

SATURDAY

Corn dogs

Celebrate 'Something on a Stick' Day

What: Denio's Roseville Farmers Market & Swap Meet exalts the many virtues of tube-shaped dogs with its fourth annual corn dog-eating contest. Participants have four minutes to chow down as many corn dogs – and as few sticks – as possible. The winner walks away with a trophy, $200 and, possibly, heartburn. Also on the day's docket: the inaugural wiener dog races and costume parade.

When: Wiener dog festivities 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.; eating contest at noon

Where: Denio's Farmers Market & Swap Meet, 1551 Vineyard Road, Roseville

Cost: $3 parking

Information: (916) 782-2704, deniosmarket.com

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

Tales of the city

Tours take to the underground

What: The fourth season of the Old Sacramento Underground tour program resumes this weekend. Hourlong guided tours reveal legends and realities.

When: Every half-hour, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Check in at the Sacramento History Museum, 101 I St.

Cost: $10-$15

Information: www.historicoldsac.org

MONDAY-THURSDAY

Outdoor dining

Food Trucks 4 Fido

What: Trying to find homes for 30 dogs, the city of Sacramento's animal shelter is getting help from SactoMoFo, PetSmart, Purina and several venues around the area. The three-night event features food trucks (most for people, one for pets), live music and dog grooming, all in pet-friendly gatherings.

When: All events are 5-8 p.m.

Where: Monday, Fair Oaks Park, 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks; Wednesday, PetSmart, 1738 Watt Ave., Sacramento; Thursday, California Automobile Museum, 2200 Front St., Sacramento

Cost: Event is free; food purchased

Information: sactomofo.com

THURSDAY Jazz

Versatile vocals come to Three Stages

What: Pair Diane Schuur's soulful, sexy vocals with Steve Tyrell's romantic take on classics, and you've got a night to remember.

When: 7:30 p.m., Thursday

Where: Three Stages at Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway, Folsom

Cost: $25-$45

Information: (916) 608-6888, www.threestages.net
