There's nothing that can improve quality of life in a family as much as the right pair of socks. Just ask my 4-year-old, who typically doesn't make it through the day without complaining about hers and taking them off.
That is, until we discovered SmartKnitKIDS Seamless Sensitivity Socks. These socks are designed with no seams at the toes - a significant benefit to a kid who makes phrases such as "I hate my socks" and "These seams itch" a regular part of her morning clothing complaints.
SmartKnitKIDS socks are made of a Corespun and Lycra material that help wick away sweat, but also create a hugging effect. They come with a "no-heel" design that makes the socks easy to fit any foot size. They use a non-binding fit at the top that avoids the elastic band that can lead many kids to distraction. They come in a variety of lengths ranging from ankle to knee-high and colors that are suitable for both boys and girls.
The manufacturers describe the socks as great for kids who are hypersensitive, just can't stand seams or even have a sensory processing disorder. All I know is that they are helping a 4-year-old - mine - who considers the act of wearing socks the bane of her existence. Their no-bumps, no-lumps approach may be an added asset, but it's the lack of seams and the softness of the material that seem to be helping my daughter.
SmartKnitKIDS also make seamless underwear. Interestingly, these appeal to my 6-year-old daughter whose clothing philosophy seems to be that the best pair of undies are those that are not on. That's probably why I find them ditched in the shoe closet all the time. Yet, there have been several occasions when I have found her wearing SmartKnitKIDS underwear and describing their softness in glowing terms.
A three-pack of SmartKnitKIDS seamless undies can be purchased for $32 through www.therawear.com ; the line's socks are available there, too, for $6.95 each, or six-packs for $36. Hopefully, with the entry of SmartKnitKIDS socks into our lives, we'll be able to pare down my daughter's sock collection, which looks like it has grown to rival the former shoe collection of Imelda Marcos.
