The U.S. Senate has confirmed President Barack Obama's nomination of Sacramento Superior Court Judge Troy L. Nunley to the U. S. District Court in Sacramento. The confirmation came by voice vote Saturday.
He fills a vacancy created when U. S. District Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. assumed senior status in July.
Nunley, 48, was appointed to the state bench by then-Gov. Gray Davis in 2002. He served as a state deputy attorney general from 1999 to 2002. He was a deputy district attorney in Sacramento County from 1996 to 1999, and a deputy district attorney in Alameda County from 1991 to 1994. He was in private practice from 1994 to 1996.
A San Francisco native, Nunley earned an undergraduate degree from St. Mary's College in Moraga in 1986, and a degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1990.
