Former Sheldon High School football player Mansel Simmons, a redshirt freshman wide receiver at Washington State last season, was hospitalized with head injuries after being involved in an altercation early Sunday in Pullman, Wash.
Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant said Simmons was knocked unconscious and reportedly suffered a skull fracture and concussion after he was struck by a man who police believe plays football at the neighboring University of Idaho. Police confirmed that Simmons regained consciousness Monday.
Tennant said Washington State and Idaho football players were kicked out of a party after they began arguing. "About 20" players, he said, gathered across the street in a church parking lot, where the alleged assault took place.
