The folks at the Sacramento-based state appellate court had begun to wonder whether Thomas Wolfe was right when he wrote his best-known novel, "You Can't Go Home Again."
But they will be doing next week just what the giant of early 20th-century American literature said couldn't be done when they finally move back into their historic location on the Capitol Mall circle just west of the Capitol.
The 3rd District Court of Appeal, California's first appellate court, moved out for the renovation of the Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building that began in 2009.
The makeover was anticipated to be completed much sooner, eventually giving rise to some restlessness on the part of the justices and supporting staff.
Everybody will be back home April 8, having spent four years in comparatively mundane quarters farther west on Capitol Mall.
The clerk's office will continue to operate next week at the temporary location on the 10th floor of 621 Capitol Mall, but will reopen in the Mosk building at 914 Capitol Mall the following Monday morning.
All telephone numbers will remain the same, and there should be no disruption to the filing of pleadings and other operations during the normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The state Budget Act of 2005-06 appropriated funds for the renovation, including fire, safety and infrastructure improvements and rehabilitation of the historically significant architectural elements of the circa-1928 structure.
