Many of the area's top seniors will compete in the 36th annual Evening Optimist boys and girls all-star basketball games Saturday at Center High School in Antelope.

Eleven college scholarship signees have been invited to play in the 4 p.m. girls game.

Among those scheduled to play for the South team, coached by Christian Brothers' Ron Gully, are Bee Player of the Year Lynette Johnson (Utah State) of Kennedy, Pleasant Grove's Dejza James (Arizona), Sacramento's Allie Green (Pepperdine), River City's Katie King (Cal State Northridge), Oak Ridge's Haley Anderson (UC San Diego), Christian Brothers' Ana Burch (Stanislaus State) and Bradshaw Christian's Ashlee Jones (Nevada).

Scholarship players representing the North team, coached by Rocklin's Rob Ferraro, are Antelope's Tyler Ellis (New Mexico State), Del Oro's Stephanie Geyer (Army) and Brianna Ruiz (Washington), and El Camino's Courtney Brignac (Chico State).

Among those selected to play in the boys game, which follows the girls contest, for the South are Metro Conference co-MVPs David Straughter of Burbank and Aaron Cameron of Sacramento; and Ryan Manning and Antonio Lewis from four-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section D-I champion Sheldon. The South will be coached by Sheldon's Joey Rollings.

Leading the North, coached by Casey Cutts of Rocklin, will be Gabe Bealer from two-time defending D-II section champion Antelope and Bee All-Metro first-team selections Eric Stuteville of Casa Roble and De'Sean Parsons of Grant.

Tickets, sold at the door, cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for students and $3 for those 12 and younger.

Rio girls soccer team impresses – Rio Americano is off to a strong start in its bid to win a seventh consecutive Capital Athletic League girls soccer championship.

The Raiders, winners of four Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championships in the past six years, are 6-0-2 with a strong nonleague schedule.

Rio Americano has beaten Davis 3-0, D-I section runner-up Franklin 2-0 and Granite Bay 1-0. The Raiders have tied St. Francis and Bella Vista.

Rio Americano opened league play with a 2-1 win over El Camino on March 22. Upcoming are key league matches at Whitney (11-1-2) April 5 and against D-III section runner-up Antelope (6-1-3) April 12 at Rio Americano.

Among those contributing for coach Jennifer Smiley are seniors Liz Moulton and Julia Butterfield and junior Emily Hansen – all members of the Raiders' CAL champion girls basketball team.

Signings – Bee All-Metro football second-team selection and Pioneer Valley League Offensive Player of the Year D'Juan Bellaire, a senior running back from Center, has signed a letter of intent to play at Division II Delta State in Cleveland, Miss. Bellaire led area rushers with 2,214 yards and 29 touchdowns this past season.

• Jesuit lineman Alec Garofalo will play at D-III Occidental in Pasadena.
