Tyler Raber fired a 1-under-par 69, and B.K. Sobhani and Jonny Baxter each had 70s as UC Davis placed seventh after the first round of the U.S. Intercollegiate men's golf tournament on Thursday at Stanford, UCD reported.

Matt Seramin added a 71, and Matt Hansen carded a 75 for the Aggies, who shot a par 280. Stanford fired an 8-under 272 to lead all teams. Saint Mary's trails by one stroke and TCU by two. USF is fourth, three strokes off the pace. Raber is tied for 19th; nine players share the individual lead at 66.

General

• Steve Doten stepped aside as the UC Davis men's water polo coach, UCD announced. He will pursue other professional opportunities.

Doten led UC Davis to a 192-168 overall record and a 126-54 mark in the Western Water Polo Association during his 12 seasons.

Plans for a national search for a new coach will be formulated soon, UCD athletic director Terry Tumey said.

• Duncan McAlpine hit his conference-leading seventh home run, leading host Dallas Baptist (15-11, 3-1 Western Athletic) to a 10-0 win over Sacramento State (13-12, 1-3) in a game shortened to seven innings, Sac State reported.

• A ninth-inning rally by UC Davis (10-13) fell short in a 5-4 loss at No. 21 Cal Poly (18-6) in the Big West Conference baseball opener for both teams, UCD reported.

• The Sac State women's tennis team (7-11) suffered a 4-3 loss at No. 56 San Diego State (10-4) to wrap up an 0-3 Southern California trip, Sac State reported.
