Re "Push to unionize Medi-Cal workers" (Page A1, March 29): I actually fell for this article until I checked the calendar. Obviously, it is an early April Fool's joke. Not even our union friendly legislators would ever consider establishing unions and setting pay scales via state law.
Public employee unions are established and operate under the collective bargaining law signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in 1978. Why would Legislators even consider by-passing that law?
Still, if somehow the joke legislation were to pass, the only way the hapless Republican opposition could thwart the unions would be via the difficult and expensive initative process.
