Re "Would the ERA change anything for women?" (Viewpoints, March 30): After reading the op-ed by Camille Hayes, I am reminded of the saying, "Be careful what you wish for."
Her contention that women would, in general, be better off if the Equal Rights Amendment were ratified by the necessary 38 states and make it into the US Constitution ignores one little bit of history, Title IX.
Title IX, the landmark legislation that, in my humble opinion, enshrines into law separate but equal treatment of the sexes in collegiate sports, would become threatened by such a law that would make absolute equality the law of the land.
How can liberals support equality for all, while demand that there be, say, separate women`s and men`s basketball teams, with equal resources?
