They dared to go out Sunday morning following a thunder-filled, rainy night. And they had fun in what turned out to be plenty of sunshine, although the ground was pretty soggy. Whether hunting Easter eggs, like 18-month old Aniya McDaniels of Sacramento did at Fairytale Town in Sacramento.

Rainfall made Sunday fifth wettest Easter on record

A total of .68 of an inch fell on Sunday in Sacramento, placing the day in the top five Easters with the most rainfall. The rainy, lightning-filled day nudged out 1896 (.64 of an inch) for the fifth spot in the record books.

The National Weather Service lists the following Easter Sundays as the all-time wettest:

• 1963 - 1.20 inches

• 1926 -- .95

• 2010 -- .85

• 1881 -- .73

• 2013 -- .68

The rainfall experienced Saturday and Sunday in Sacramento kept the first three months of the year from going into the record books as the driest January through March since 1878.

That mark is still held by the January through March in 1976 when just 2.47 inches fell. An unofficial total of 2.91 inches fell this year during the first three months.

Today's forecast calls for a possibility of scattered showers in the Sacramento region before 11 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday look sunny and warm.
