Common Grounds, an independent coffee shop in Davis, served its last cup on Easter Sunday.
Operators of the popular hangout at 2171 Cowell Blvd. said their landlord last week opted not to renew their lease, prompting closure of the establishment after more than 12 years in business.
The landlord was identified as Regency Centers Corp., a Jacksonville, Fla.-based company that owns and operates scores of grocery and retail centers nationwide. Regency bought Oakshade Town Center, where Common Grounds operated, several years ago.
Calls to Regency Centers were not returned, but posts on social media sites indicated that other prospective tenants are interested in the Common Grounds space.
Common Grounds employed about a dozen workers.
