Clayton Kershaw tossed a masterpiece on Opening Day, but the San Francisco Giants have a fine young southpaw of their own.

Madison Bumgarner surrendered just two hits over eight dominant shutout innings in the Giants' 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle test of a three-game set.

Bumgarner (1-0), who retired 18 Dodgers in a row at one point, struck out six for San Francisco, which tallied 10 hits but grounded into four double plays.

Kershaw fanned seven in his four-hit shutout on Monday.

Joaquin Arias tallied two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Sergio Romo picked up his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth.

South Korean left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-1) made his highly-anticipated major league debut for the Dodgers and gave up three runs -- one earned -- on 10 hits over 6 1/3 frames. He fanned five and walked none.

"I think he's going to give up his fair share of hits," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "He pitched well, you're going to give up some hits now and then. It's not a concern."

The 25-year-old Ryu, who agreed to a six-year, $36 million deal with the Dodgers after they bid $25.7 million to win the rights to negotiate with him during the offseason, became the first player to go straight from the Korean League to the major leagues.

Doubles by Andre Ethier and Mark Ellis served as Los Angeles' only hits of the contest.

The Giants struck first in the fourth and added two more runs in the seventh.

Buster Posey and Hunter Pence had consecutive one-out singles to put runners on the corners before Arias grounded an RBI single back up the box and just past a diving Ellis at second base to plate Posey.

Arias reached on a Justin Sellers throwing error at shortstop to start the seventh. Andres Torres lined a base hit to right and Brandon Crawford moved the runners over with a groundout to first base.

Ronald Belisario replaced Ryu on the mound to face Bumgarner, who slapped a high chopper to Sellers, whose throwing error to the plate allowed Arias and Torres to come across and make it 3-0.
