HEMET, Calif. -- The vice principal of a Southern California high school was arrested Wednesday after allegations that she had sexual relationships with current and former students, police said.
Erin Henton, a 45-year-old vice principal at Tahquitz High School, was arrested on suspicion of crimes including unlawful intercourse with a minor and oral copulation with a minor, officials said.
The incidents were believed to have happened off campus over a period of several months, said Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart.
Henton had been under investigation since March 8, the same day she was placed on administrative leave by the school.
One of the boys' parents discovered the relationship and reported it to authorities, police said. Police did not yet know how the relationships began and did not release the ages of the alleged victims.
"We take these situations very seriously and have taken appropriate personnel actions in response to this arrest to ensure the safety of our students and staff," the Hemet Unified School District said in a statement Wednesday. The district had said March 15 it was assisting in the investigation of an unnamed school employee.
Henton oversaw the school's student council and athletics and assisted in discipline, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.
Henton was being held on $1 million bail and was scheduled to appear in court Friday. It is not clear whether she has hired an attorney, and there was no answer at a phone number listed in her name.
Her arrest comes less than a year after a teacher in the same district pleaded guilty to having sex with a 16-year-old boy who said she seduced him because he resembled Taylor Lautner from the "Twilight" movie franchise.
Janet Pearl Ramirez was sentenced to five years' probation and 120 days of house arrest.
