Prescribed fire operations are planned to begin today on the northwest and south shores of Lake Tahoe.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from the controlled burns, which will be conducted by the U.S. Forest Service's Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Fuels management crews expect to burn approximately 10 acres near Mewuk Drive in South Lake Tahoe and 5 acres near Bunker Drive in Tahoe City.

Both operations may continue through the week, depending on weather conditions.
