Sacramento City Unified School District trustees today will consider converting Rosa Parks Middle School to a K-8 campus to accommodate students displaced when neighboring Mark Hopkins Elementary closes in the fall.

Mark Hopkins students had been slated to attend either John Bidwell or John Sloat next school year.

But based on parental feedback, Superintendent Jonathan Raymond has amended that proposal to recommend instead that students go to the Rosa Parks campus, according to a district staff report.

Mark Hopkins is one of seven elementary campuses that trustees decided in February to close due to falling enrollment.

The Sacramento Coalition to Save Public Education is planning a rally before tonight's 6:30 p.m. meeting. Organizers want trustees to rescind their February school closure vote, saying that campuses to be closed have high minority attendance.
