Former Bee worker dies as tow truck crashes into his pickup truck

A motorist was killed Wednesday night in a collision at an intersection near Sacramento's River Park neighborhood.

The crash involving a tow truck and a small pickup occurred about 6:30 p.m. at Carlson Drive and H street. The tow truck was northbound on Carlson and the pickup was westbound on H Street, city police said.

The tow truck struck the pickup on the driver's side door. The driver of the pickup, Denis James Tomassetti, 60, of Sacramento, died from injuries suffered in the crash. Tomassetti worked for The Bee in the finance and circulation departments from 1977 to 1992. His wife, Mary Rhea Breen, works in finance for The Bee.
