Just one day after Jason Hanson retired, the Detroit Lions quickly filled his shoes by reportedly signing David Akers on Friday.

Hanson retired on Thursday after 21 years and 327 games with the team after being drafted in the second round of the 1992 draft. He set a record for most seasons and most games played with just one team.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Akers is coming to Detroit after being released from the San Francisco 49ers last month.

Akers, 38, struggled at times last season as he made just 29 of his 42 field goal attempts for a 69.0 percent efficiency, his lowest proficiency since 1999. He did, though, hit a 63-yard field goal last season, which tied an NFL record.

The six-time Pro Bowl selection has connected on 367-of-453 field goal attempts along with 521-of-527 extra point attempts with Washington, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
