LOS ANGELES -- Two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have been charged with lying about a drug arrest after a surveillance video appeared to contradict their claims.
Prosecutors said Friday that 31-year-old Robert G. Lindsey and 38-year-old Charles G. Rodriguez were charged with conspiracy and filing a false report.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said they were arrested Thursday, and have been relieved of duty without pay.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/Z7zEJn) a lawyer for the man arrested by the deputies showed the video to prosecutors as his client's trial on drug charges approached. As a result of the video, the charges were dropped and prosecutors referred the matter to the Sheriff's Department for further investigation.
The deputies and their attorneys could not be immediately reached for comment.
