Big Las Vegas third sinks River Cats

• Game highlights: The Las Vegas 51s scored five unearned runs in the third inning en route to a 9-3 victory Friday night.

• FYI: The River Cats (0-2) have never lost three games in a row to start the season.

• Don't fret: History bodes well for River Cats skipper Steve Scarsone. Bob Geren (2000), Tony DeFrancesco (2003), Todd Steverson (2008) and Darren Bush (2011) – each won South Division titles their first year.

• Eight is great: There are eight first-round draft picks between the River Cats and 51s. The River Cats have Jemile Weeks, Grant Green, Michael Choice, Sonny Gray and James Simmons. The 51s have Zach Wheeler, Travis d'Arnaud and former River Cat Landon Powell.

• Today: River Cats LHP Justin Thomas (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Las Vegas RHP Collin McHugh (0-0, 0.00), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
